Supplementary tuition outside school hours is a familiar feature of education culture across much of India, and many diaspora families carry that expectation with them to Australia, where the schooling system and its rhythms operate somewhat differently. Understanding how tuition fits, or does not need to fit, into an Australian school routine is a useful starting point.
Australian schools generally place less formal weight on external tuition than schools in some parts of India, and the school system itself often provides support structures for students who are struggling with particular subjects. This does not mean tuition has no place, but it does mean it is worth treating as one option among several rather than an automatic necessity.
A balanced routine that leaves room for rest, extracurricular activity and unstructured time alongside any tuition tends to serve most children better than an intensively scheduled week, particularly during the settling in period after a family relocates. Discussing expectations with the child's teachers can help identify whether extra support is genuinely needed and in which subjects.
